The glass is made of quartz sand, soda ash, feldspar and limestone, etc., after being mixed, melted at high temperature, homogenized, processed into shapes, and then annealed. It is widely used in construction, daily use, art, instrumentation and other fields, with rich types and superior performance. In addition to making all kinds of glass doors and windows, we often make them into various lenses, decorations, etc. If you want to know whether the head of the glass cutter is diamond, and what you should pay attention to when cutting glass by yourself, please see below.
Ningbo Yongrong Technology Co., Ltd. produces quality Diamond Glass Cutter.
1. Is the tip of the glass cutter a diamond?
The glass knife refers to the tool used to cut glass. Generally, the part of the glass knife used for cutting is made of diamond or alloy material that is harder than the glass, and this part is at the tip of the knife.
The cutter head materials are divided into three types: natural diamond glass cutter, synthetic diamond glass cutter, and cemented carbide glass cutter.
Second, what should you pay attention to when cutting glass yourself
1. Prepare the work area. A large flat table is required. It is recommended that it is not too hard to scratch the glass. The work area should be easy to clean. As glass fragments may be generated, it is recommended to avoid working on the carpet. In order to ensure the safety of pets and children, keep the work area and materials away from them.
2. Wipe clean the surface of the glass to be cut. Any stains and irregularities on the glass will prevent you from scratching on it. Use a rag or fingers to wipe clean the area to be scratched.
3. Prepare a glass cutter and some low-viscosity oil. The size of a glass cutter is similar to that of a pencil. Use a diamond or a hard grinding wheel to scratch the glass so that the glass can be divided along the scratch. You can buy cutting oil at a hardware store or use some kerosene.
4. Measure and mark the place to be scratched. The scratch must go from one edge to the other edge. You can use a marker to mark on the glass (if you want to cut straight lines, you can use a ruler). You can also use paper to mark, and then spread the paper under the glass. The cutting length should not be too long. Scratches exceeding 60 cm increase the risk of glass breakage. Make sure to leave approximately 15 cm of edges on both sides of the scratch line to allow space for gripping. If you are cutting small pieces of glass, you may need special tools, such as pliers or a small hammer, to knock off glass that cannot be grasped by your hands.
5. Scribe a line on the glass, immerse the cutter in the oil, and hold it like a pencil. A glass cutter soaked in oil can draw a smooth line. Make sure to check that the grinding wheel is aligned in the desired position and direction.
6. Calibration. You can use a yardstick or a common office ruler. Make sure that the ruler is thick enough to prevent conflict with the grinding wheel on the cutting knife.
7. Press the glass with your hand, and use a glass cutter to roll and scribe along the surface. Pay attention to the sound. The rustling sound means that you have applied too much force or that your glass cutter has insufficient oil. The smaller the sound, the better the marking effect. If you apply too much force (a common mistake), the cut will become too hot and easily cause the glass to break. The goal is a neat and consistent cutting line. If too much force is applied in one place, it is just right in another place, and the glass will not break in the way envisaged. Minor flaws will cause cutting skew.
8. The glass cutter should be directly and smoothly drawn from one end to the other end. Do not draw back and forth along the line even if there are missing places.
9. Check the scratch line. If you wipe off the cutting oil, you should see less noticeable marks instead of broken protrusions. It should just look like a small scratch. Make sure that the scratch is completely drawn from one end to the other end.
10. Grasp both ends of the glass dividing line by hand. It's like trying to break a potato chip into two pieces with two hands.
11. Apply light force with your wrist to break the glass in half along the scribe line. Do not move your elbow joints. Just bend the wrist and apply force (when there is a wrist, apply force clockwise, and the left wrist will be counterclockwise). Imagine that the line you draw is exactly half the thickness of the glass. Now you need to use the fragility of the marking area to divide the glass in two. It succeeded by breaking it in half. When the glass breaks, it may just start to crack. If it is only a few centimeters apart, continue to apply force to make the glass continue to split forward.
12. Use fine sandpaper or whetstone to remove sharp edges. The edge is where the glass powder cracks. Polishing not only reduces the risk of being scratched, the polished glass is also not easy to break, increasing the toughness.
